About this artwork
The original drawing was created with pen on paper. When it was completed I saw the image of the top of a classic Greek temple column. Some parts of the sketch design also appear to show fanciful floral and animal imagery as part of the capital.
The coloration phase of the work was guided by this vision, and was completed by coloring the background of a sketch copy using colored pencils. The transfer of the original design to canvas was accomplished… with a computer projector, projecting the original drawing onto the blank canvas whereby it could be redrawn at the proper size to fit the dimensions of the canvas.
This work was painted on gallery wrapped canvas with the sides painted a complementary color. Gallery wrapped canvas requires no further framing and can be hung as is.

« I am amazed by the world, the paradox of its mortality, and our sense of something eternal. I hope to communicate my response to this paradox through my work. »
David Martsolf is an award-winning American artist whose paintings have been featured in solo exhibitions nationally. He describes the universal themes of life and death "viewed through the eyes of amazement" as the main message in his works. In addition, Martsolf's interest in cosmology, as well as the concept of infinity, both physical and metaphysical, are also explored in his diverse compositions. He creates using oils on canvas.
