About this artwork
When I retired from my corporate duties in 2017I created the design for "Epitaph" using a photo editor, digitally collaging images of Arnold Schwarzenegger as "The Terminator" and myself, playing on the Terminator's famous comment, "I'll be back!" At the time the joke was that I would not be coming back to work. I hung a print of the design outside my office door during the week prior to my retirement. After retirement, I rehung the same printout…
in my studio to remind myself that my return the art world was definite, and that I would no longer be circumscribed by corporate life. As the years progressed I came to see that this same light-hearted comment would ultimately be true of my entire life. It came to be a firm reminder that our lives on Earth are indeed mortal ones, so that if one planned to do things or create things, then you had better get to it. This came to be so driving to me that I decided to make the image into a permanent artwork.

« I am amazed by the world, the paradox of its mortality, and our sense of something eternal. I hope to communicate my response to this paradox through my work. »
