About this artwork
This is an abstract with warm tones and a floral element. Martsolf was unsure how to title this piece as it is almost a pure abstract. Noting that the human brain tries at all times to make sense of what it is looking at by trying to make out animate or inanimate objects, Martsolf could only see a red badge-like shape at the lower left of the painting, hence the title. In his pure abstracts Martsolf does not like to call out objects because as…
soon as he does, the observer begins to see the object and any freedom that the observer had to create his or her own unique personal response to the work is now ruined. This artwork was painted on gallery wrapped canvas with sides painted a dark brown color (see additional photos). The artwork requires no additional frame. It is wired and ready to hang.

United States
« I am amazed by the world, the paradox of its mortality, and our sense of something eternal. I hope to communicate my response to this paradox through my work. »
David Martsolf is an award-winning American artist whose paintings have been featured in solo exhibitions nationally. He describes the universal themes of life and death "viewed through the eyes of amazement" as the main message in his works. In addition, Martsolf's interest in cosmology, as well as the concept of infinity, both physical and metaphysical, are also explored in his diverse compositions. He creates using oils on canvas.
