This work forms part of a series of landscapes inspired by the simplicity and graphic clarity of twentieth-century Japanese woodblock prints. In these pieces I take the more intuitive, layered collage processes that underpin much of my work and distil them into simpler compositions, reducing them to what feels like their essential elements. As with all of my imagery, I aim to balance remembered forms with direct observations of landscape, creating… pictures that exist somewhere between memory and experience.
Please note - All artwork professionally printed on archival Hahnemühle German Etching paper, hand-signed and numbered. Photos of prints are mock ups for illustrative purpose. Signatures and print numbers if shown may vary.
David McConochie is a UK-based painter, printmaker, digital artist, and visual artist, with roots in graphic design and advanced training in illustration. He masterfully combines collage and mixed media, blending layered textures, simplified forms, and intuitive, tactile processes inspired by Japanese woodcuts and the British countryside. His work radiates a haunting, atmospheric tension—balancing chaos with structure—evoking the ambiguities and emotional resonances of landscapes and memory.
