About this artwork
In Broken Soul II, the theme of inner conflict is condensed into a violet, relief-like form that stands out isolated against the black background. Cracks, indentations, and folds make the motif of the "broken soul" tangible in the material itself. Violet evokes an ambivalent meaning, oscillating between spirituality and melancholy. The broken soul appears less vital here, but more introverted and vulnerable. The relief-like physicality of the color… makes inner conflict visible in the material itself. The black of the background reinforces the isolation, loneliness, and delimitation. In the tradition of Art Informel and Abstract Expressionism, the work combines gesture, materiality, and abstraction into a study of vulnerability, isolation, and inner fragmentation.
David Söllner, a trained primary school teacher, expresses himself through painting and photography. By dealing with colours, materials and motifs, he creates a symbiosis between everyday experiences and the search for the extraordinary. His works are a kaleidoscope of positive colour compositions, darker moods or a dynamic mixture of both elements that reflect his mental journey and the crossing of his own boundaries. This creates an authentic world of feelings that vividly captures the fusion of imagination and reality.
