About this artwork
The bright, almost artificial green has an ambivalent effect: on the one hand vital and energetic, on the other toxic and restless. The bubbles and irregularities of the surface create the impression that the "broken soul" here is in a state of dissolution or transformation. Unlike in the previous works in the series, the fracture is less evident in cracks and lines, but rather a process of swelling, of unsteadiness, of imperfection. The work can… be read as a reflection on inner instability – on a soul that cannot be grasped in a closed form, but remains in constant motion and endangerment. The surface marked by bubbles and depressions alludes to instability and transformation. The work follows the tradition of Art Informel, in which vulnerability and fragmentation are negotiated not figuratively, but through material and color.
David Söllner, a trained primary school teacher, expresses himself through painting and photography. By dealing with colours, materials and motifs, he creates a symbiosis between everyday experiences and the search for the extraordinary. His works are a kaleidoscope of positive colour compositions, darker moods or a dynamic mixture of both elements that reflect his mental journey and the crossing of his own boundaries. This creates an authentic world of feelings that vividly captures the fusion of imagination and reality.
