Migration
The neofigurative canvas entitled "Migration" is a poignant representation of the exodus of a people to an unknown destination. The bodies of the characters are reversed, reinforcing the idea of uprooting and loss of bearings. The ground is absent from the canvas, thus creating a feeling of imbalance and instability.
The suitcase, which replaces the bust of the characters, is a powerful symbol of their imminent departure. It represents… their only material possession and is golden, symbolizing the wealth they carry with them. The characters no longer have arms, preventing them from acting and fighting against their situation.
The web shines a light on the mass treatment of migrants, who are often viewed as a group rather than unique individuals. The loss of gender of the characters, rendered anonymous by the suitcase, reflects the way in which society can deny the uniqueness of each human being.
