About this artwork
"Rest" is a work that invites rest, a pause. In an era where everything is constantly accelerating, taking time for oneself becomes almost an act of defiance. A resistance against the culture of productivity at all costs.
“Rest is a form of resistance, reclaiming your own existence”
Solid oak frame and tempered glass pane.

Denis Verdier's work initially revolved around a recurring theme: flowering blue cacti rooted in antique vases. An outsider in the plant world, the cactus intrigues with its contrasting spines and flowers. Thanks to its anatomy, it is able to survive in hostile deserts. Thus, the artist identifies with its unique capacity for adaptation.
Coming from a background where art wasn't a given, Denis Verdier always felt out of step with established norms (as exemplified by antique vases). He found in the cactus an echo of his own journey: that of a being who adapts, evolves, and ultimately flourishes. The color blue, omnipresent in his work, brings a note of serenity. It represents a gentle adaptation in a noisy era.
Beyond his personal history, his works question the place of the human in a society under tension, wishing to highlight a nature that persists where technology overflows.
