About this artwork
"Tangle 3" by Denise Driscoll is a small acrylic painting on canvas with abstractly painted ropes of blues and earthy orange interwoven over a dark blue background. All are covered with a layer of textured dots in gold, sliver, blue and white. This 34 x 36 x 1.5 inch painting continues around the gallery-wrapped sides and is signed on the reverse.
The “Tangle” paintings begin with the notion that all living things—plants, animals and humans—are… connected in an intricate mesh of being, yet each exists at the center of their own particular world. These simultaneous centers of lived experience swirl within and around us, piercing, enveloping, and permeating with or without our notice. Each painting is an imaginary map of exchange, a playful and hopeful record of our entanglement with other beings and each other.

Denise Driscoll is an established, prizewinning artist. Her work is held in both public and private collections worldwide. Driscoll is an abstract painter who's work pursues the invisible and the unseen: another being’s inner space, interaction and power within groups, and the immense tangle of information that flows through us each day. She draws inspiration from magical realism, speculative fiction, and philosophy among other topics. Her paintings are characterized by accumulated marks and repetition of form, often squares, circles, and ovals that weave together to represent an imaginary map of exchange: between organisms, across entire species, or within an individual.
