Metamorphic is a large oil painting with an intense moving sky, set behind a late spring frost. The bold yellows of the blooming Colorado Aspens caught in the middle. The morning views of frosted grass take on a frozen lake appearance. As the thin ice slowly melts away, the same vantage point by mid morning is surrounded by tans, greens and bright yellows. Two different seasons within a few hours of waking. April in Colorado.

« I use color to pursue themes of peace, power, struggle, and renewal. »
Derrick Breidenthal is an award-winning artist based in the United States whose paintings have been exhibited nationally and in Switzerland. He cites color as underlining all of his observations and as being the driving force behind his artistic practice. For Breidenthal, his color selection is "the first sentence in the story", whereas the landscape, format, texture, form, line, and composition are simply there to sustain the first sentence.
