About this artwork
In the Occitan tradition, along rivers and navigable rivers, especially in the 12th and 13th centuries, many legends of "Drac" are told, including one of the most famous and the Tarasque at Tarascon sur le Rhône. In general, the places presented at the time specific dangers of floods, rapids... which endangered the flat-bottomed boats which were used for transport or the residents who went about their business very close to the course of the river.…
. In French the closest translation would be "dragon" except that here no fire but peril of water.
