About this artwork
The "green line" represents the partition of Cyprus into two entities, one Greek, the other Turkish, since the war of 1974. I represented the subject starting from a view of the Cypriot countryside from a satellite image of the Greek part of the island borrowed from "Google Earth", in the background. On top, I painted the mountain of Pentadactylos, emblematic of the North, Turkish, as well as the Cathedral-Mosque of Famagusta. Cathedral which symbolizes…
the duality of Cyprus, built at the time of the Crusades in the Gothic style, and "adorned" with a Minaret by the Turks.
Finally, the barbed wire of the green line with the sign that we see almost everywhere in the Turkish part, as soon as there is military terrain.

Donald Le Heron, a painter passionate about nature, began art as a hobby. Using mainly oil, he likes to paint "thickly", creating vibrant layers of color. Inspired by Chagall and Picasso, he developed a technique based on superposition, uniting varied aspects of a place on the same canvas. His works invite travel and contemplation, capturing the essence of distant places, their beauty and uniqueness in a way that is both calming and provocative.
