This portrait is a handcrafted tricolour cyanotype, a rare and technically demanding evolution of the classic 19th-century photographic process. This work belongs to a series documenting the cultural heritage and soulful faces of Kazakhstan.
Unlike traditional monochromatic blue cyanotypes, this piece is created through a meticulous layering process. By precisely registering multiple exposures, the artist achieves an earthy ochres, deep indigo,… and black tones. This technique bridges the gap between historical photography and contemporary graphic art, resulting in a painterly, textured aesthetic that cannot be replicated digitally.
