"The job of the artist is to always deepen the mystery"- Francis Bacon
In this piece, I poured raw emotion through bold, flowing lines that weave around elusive faces, capturing the turbulence beneath calm surfaces. Using acrylic and gouache on paper, I embraced the art brut style to express vulnerability and complexity. This artwork radiates an intense, thought-provoking energy that invites viewers to explore hidden feelings and inner conflicts,… bringing a dynamic and emotional depth to any space. - as described by AI
Douglas Shippee is a dedicated painter with a BFA from the University of Minnesota, an MFA from Indiana University, and has spent 35 years in New York’s Hudson Valley working with oil, acrylic, watercolor, and gouache. His technique is deeply intuitive; oil and acrylic works are layered and reworked over time, while watercolors and gouaches embrace spontaneity and immediacy. Through abstract forms and occasional figurative elements, he seeks to evoke profound psychological and personal narratives, conveying the rich emotional complexity of what it means to be human.
