The Shadow of the Patio - A suspended moment, where light gradually gives way to shadow. Inspired by the architecture of Moroccan riads, this canvas plays on a delicate chiaroscuro, revealing volumes, arches, and motifs with a more inner intensity.
Through a sensitive pictorial approach, I work with contrasts and cooler hues to create a silent, almost meditative atmosphere. The fountain, at the center, becomes an anchor point, like a gentle breath… in the heart of this still space.
I am not just trying to represent a place, but to make people feel an invisible presence, a deeper memory, as if the courtyard continued to live in the shadows.
Driss Meskini, a Moroccan painter trained at the National Institute of Fine Arts and the School of Visual Arts in New York, works primarily in oil on canvas. He blends figuration, impressionism, and expressionism, using free brushstrokes, vibrant textures, and a keen sensitivity to light to reveal the soul of landscapes, architecture, and places of memory. In his works, he seeks to convey a contemplative atmosphere, imbued with quiet poetry and profound emotion, inviting us to rediscover the subtle beauty of everyday life.
