About this artwork
"Experimentum N1" is the result of a bold material experiment, where sand and glue merge into an unexpected tactile surface. In this piece, the printing process is reversed white sand forms bold, textured shapes against a rich black background, a visual inversion achieved through playful manipulation of ink.
The abstract composition leaves room for personal interpretation, drawing the viewer into a world where textures speak as loudly as forms. Its… raw, grainy details and striking contrasts invite a closer look, revealing the beauty in chance and imperfection.
This work is one-of-a-kind and will never be replicated, making it a rare addition to any art collection.
In "Experimentum N1", I allowed the materials to lead the way. The sand created its own paths, the glue shaped unexpected edges, and the ink inversion gave the work its striking presence. It’s a conversation between control and unpredictability, one that exists only in this single print.

Elen Arakelyan, a passionate painter, printmaker, and digital artist graduated from the State Academy of Fine Arts of Armenia, masterfully unites traditional techniques like linocut, etching, and book illustration with playful experiments in mixed media—blending sand, acrylics, and oils on canvas. Her abstract prints and illustrations embrace the tactile richness of monotype, etching, and carborundum, pushing boundaries to evoke spontaneity and depth. Through her intimate exploration of memory and fleeting moments, her artwork resonates with a quiet honesty, stirring nostalgia and introspection in those who experience it.
