About this artwork
BLUE DESERT #1 belongs to the series of images that were shown in my second “BLUE DESERT” exhibition at the Sendlinger Kulturschmiede, Munich 2024.
In this work, I tried to re-create with acrylic and sand a fascinating world that exists beyond the physical, material realm, aiming to combine a real appearance of a desert landscape, seen from a bird's-eye view, with a feeling of a blue space. The quadratic form of the painting and a view from a bird’s-eye… perspective are used to underline the endlessness and detachment of such kind of landscape. Looking like a dreamlike, distanced and serene blue space from afar, the viewer is surprised to discover up close a vibrant surface that reminds of tectonic movements in nature.
Eleonora Bourmistrov works as a painter, installation, conceptual, digital, and photographic artist with a background in fine arts (Master in Fine Art, Chelsea College of Arts, University of the Arts London) and philosophy (PhD, LMU Munich). She combines object-based painting, immersive, site-specific installations, and experimental material techniques with semi-realistic figures in introspective, simulacratic depictions. Her works, mostly characterized by desert-like landscapes, illusion, and mysticism, convey a powerful blend of stillness, spirituality, and deep emotional tension, leading viewers on a meditative inner journey.
