About this artwork
BLUE DESERT - SANDMEER was the centrepiece of the series of images that were shown in my second “BLUE DESERT” exhibition at the Sendlinger Kulturschmiede, Munich 2024. Made with different blue sands and acrylic, it combines elements of a desert-similar landscape with those of the endless sea-like vastness, seen from a bird's-eye view. It creates a feeling of something non-material, spiritual, beyond the reach of the ordinary in a kind of the expanding… blue space. The swirl off-center invites the viewer to introspection and to immerse themselves in a depth of their own universe while the intense blue colours on the overall exude meditative calm and soothing energy that create an atmosphere of contemplation and inner peace.
Eleonora Bourmistrov works as a painter, installation, conceptual, digital, and photographic artist with a background in fine arts (Master in Fine Art, Chelsea College of Arts, University of the Arts London) and philosophy (PhD, LMU Munich). She combines object-based painting, immersive, site-specific installations, and experimental material techniques with semi-realistic figures in introspective, simulacratic depictions. Her works, mostly characterized by desert-like landscapes, illusion, and mysticism, convey a powerful blend of stillness, spirituality, and deep emotional tension, leading viewers on a meditative inner journey.
