About this artwork
I love the poem by Bert Brecht “In Memory of Marie A.”
It inspired me to create this picture.
In the play, Brecht describes a summer day with a girl he loves.
Now he remembers that day but nothing remains except the memory of a white cloud in the sky that stood above the lovers.
I tried to interpret this cloud using acrylic paint and color spray. Its great importance for memory but also its delicacy and transience.
Let this cloud work on you… and surrender to the images it triggers in you.
Elisabeth Pein is a dynamic artist who works with acrylic and oil paints and novel materials such as coffee on canvas. Her style is strongly influenced by William Turner's imaginative expression, which she combines with Sigmund Freud's theory to depict profound emotions. Her works create a poetic atmosphere that seems to invite viewers to encounter the familiar world in new, emotionally charged ways.
