About this artwork
Mijn schilderij reflecteert op Doggerland, het uitgestrekte land dat ooit Groot-Brittannië met continentaal Europa verbond, voordat het verdween onder de stijgende zeeën. Dit verdronken landschap spreekt niet alleen over de oude geschiedenis, maar ook over onze tijd van nu. Stijgende zeespiegels en klimaatverandering bedreigen opnieuw de kusten, en echoën het lot van dit vergeten land.
Woorden glinsteren en vervagen afhankelijk van het licht, net… zoals herinnering en geschiedenis bewegen tussen aanwezigheid en afwezigheid. De reflecterende oppervlakken werken als water: soms verbergend, soms onthullend.
Voor mij belichaamt Doggerland zowel veerkracht als kwetsbaarheid. Het was ooit een vruchtbare corridor van leven, later overstroomd door de onstuitbare zee. In mijn werk bezoek ik deze verloren wereld niet als reconstructie, maar als spiegel. Wat verdronken is, kan terugkeren als waarschuwing.

Her paintings therefore never remain static: they are living surfaces, changing with time, movement, and light.
