About this artwork
I work with materials that have already lived another life. Ash, residue, fragments, and discarded matter become part of my process — transformed from one state of being into another. What remains after creation is never waste to me; it carries memory, fragility, and evidence of change.
Each piece I create exists as part of an ongoing cycle of transformation. Some works capture only a single stage within that process, holding a moment suspended… between growth and decay, presence and disappearance. I am drawn to the tension between life and the vulnerable space where one quietly becomes the other.
Through this process, I aim to create works that feel both delicate and elemental — traces of transformation made visible.
Elle Ford is a multimedia artist with a background in fine art and a breadth of life experience spanning cultures and climates, working across paint, photography, video, sculpture, and installation. She adopts an experimental, abstract approach, manipulating raw environmental materials—burning, carbonizing, or grinding them—to capture energy, motion, and the tension of transformation. Her evocative works explore interconnectedness, lifecycles, and entropy, often evoking a sense of vulnerability as they reveal the ephemeral, transient nature of existence and the beauty found in decay and metamorphosis.
