About this artwork
This painting represents future generations — the world we leave behind. It is the largest work in the series, because that is where our focus should be: on what is yet to come.
There is little value in endlessly pointing at past mistakes. What matters is what we choose to do now. The decisions we make today shape not only our immediate future, but also the lives of generations we may never meet.
This work carries one of my daughter’s nicknames.… A conscious choice. It reminds me that care for nature begins in the way we live, the way we raise our children, and the example we set. Respect for water is respect for life.
Water is both fragile and powerful — much like the future itself.
I hope for a world in which humanity learns to live in balance with nature once again. A world of clean waters, pure air, and life in abundance.
Els Devrieze is a Belgian painter whose work explores intensity, stillness, and the physical presence of paint.
Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, she builds layered surfaces that function as inner landscapes rather than literal depictions. Her practice is driven by intuition and material engagement, allowing tension and balance to emerge through texture, color, and restraint.
Devrieze’s work invites sustained looking, offering space for reflection without prescribing a fixed narrative.
