Originally, CAVIARDER's action consisted of "Cover with a black coating, to make illegible a passage of a text prohibited by censorship" (Larousse). In the series CAVIARDAGE, Erick Derac uses this gesture and applies it to his project of reinterpreting the image. He covers, badly, magazine images that he then rubs on canvas. The advertising message of the original photograph… evaporated. All that remains is the pose of a model and a new image that oscillates between the mud and the sublime.
Technique: Paint covering on magazine page mounted on canvas.
