About this artwork
"Dom" - internal processes are reflected in the exterior of a mystical outer world. Upward pillar-like building structures appear puzzling and threatening. There is hardly any space here for a small self. From the outside there is only weak light through church window-like vertical recesses. A puzzling little green element seems to have a special meaning in the scene and underlines the mysterious atmosphere. - The content of the title is based on… the scene in Goethe's Faust "Dom". Margarete suspects that she is pregnant by Mephisto and seeks protection and consolation in the cathedral that is familiar to her. But the inner fears turn the interior of the room into a threatening place. The girl's tragedy has begun. -
Beyond such a possibility of interpretation, the picture radiates a mysterious sublimity, beauty and harmony, and ultimately this is what the painter is all about.
« For some, the motifs of the highly expressive pictures by the Bonn artist Ernst-Martin Heel resemble a natural event. -Kölner Rundschau »
Ernst-Martin Heel is an artist living in Germany. Over the past decades, he has presented his work to an art-loving public in numerous solo exhibitions and his pieces are included in private collections in the USA, Spain, and Switzerland. His art has been reviewed in various publications and national newspapers such as the WAZ (Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung). His paintings explore fundamental forces of existence in their upheavals, while maintaining an abstract and expressive formal language. However, the inherent chaos finds a rigorous harmony in his art. The principle of "floating" as a fundamental element of life is consistently reflected in his predominantly dynamic paintings.
