About this artwork
Animals are a particularly appealing subject. Colored pencils are ideally suited for bringing out the texture of the fur, allowing for delicate lines and detailed rendering. The background has the opposite effect, suggesting a blanket on which the cat lies with its roughly printed patterns and areas. This interplay between the detailed colored pencil drawing and the deliberately controlled effects of the lithographic printing is what I find so appealing…
