I celebrate here the strength of the athletes who knelt with their fists raised in a powerful symbol of protest against police violence and systemic racism in the United States following the death of George Floyd in 2020. of male history, however, women athletes and in particular Black women in the United States have played a fundamental role in activism for civil rights and against racial injustice, confronting both racism and sexism. I want to think here of all these women, up to Megan Rapino, star of American women's football, emblematic figure of this commitment, which goes beyond racism to include the fight for gender equality and LGBTQ+ rights.
