About this artwork

This piece was inspired in the pandemic. This piece reflects on an earlier epidemic, called cocoliztle, which appeared for the first time in 1545 and in three years, it killed an estimated 5–15 million people, or up to 80% of the native population of Mexico at the time. This piece is an acrylic and ink on canvas, 8 x 8." Ready to hang

The single painting was commissioned to be part part of a community mural, with multiple images of skulls created… by well known binational (Mexico US) artists. The inspiration for the mural was the one of the pre-Hispanic Tzompantli (row or wall of skulls).

The mural was printed and exhibited in Mexican consulates in the US and videotaped and promoted by the directorate of Mexican cultural and artistic heritage.
