Genesis of the work
I was thrilled that evening as I watched the sunset over the chalk-colored rocks of the Alpilles, in this wild, raw landscape.
I have a deep connection with nature, and nothing moves me more than a mineral landscape, contrasting with the azure blue of the sky: I feel free there, in harmony with the elements.
When the light fades over the Alpilles, I feel the breath of… the wind like a melody.
Driven by this emotion, I try to express it on the canvas by softening the contrasts and choosing a warm and enveloping palette.
The sensuality of Ibrahim Maalouf's trumpets carries me and gives fluidity to my gestures.
Each musical phrase guides me and the variations can even influence the choice of a shade or the intensity of the realization.
I enter a sort of trance until I feel a sense of calm comparable to that felt on that summer evening.

Florence Penet is a French artist who creates abstract paintings characterized by a search for light through the interplay of chromatic contrast and harmony. Working primarily in oils, she often adds marble dust for an impasto effect and to structure her compositions. Her work is essentially spontaneous, her paintings taking shape as the layers of glaze are applied. In this intuitive way of creating, Florence's spirit and emotions take hold of and inhabit the space of the canvas.
