About this artwork
I created this work with passion, blending acrylic, pencil, and ink to capture a world where chaos and harmony coexist. Each shape and color tells a secret story, a vibrant energy that invites reflection. Here is its story:
The Other World 98 x 118.5 cm mixed media
Our playground, the exposed reef flat, held many surprises for the children of my tribe. Normally used for shellfish gathering at low tide, this reef-covered area allowed us to play… tag, while sometimes spotting UFOs (Unidentified Floating Objects) stuck in the submerged crevices. Our clan territory, known as a dumping ground for all kinds of floating debris, resembled a lost and found office. The incongruous requests from neighboring tribes went hand in hand with our unexpected finds. "If you pick up a piano, even a smashed one, don't burn it..."
Stéphane Foucaud, a graduate in visual arts from Strasbourg, expresses himself primarily through painting. His technique blends American Neo-Impressionism and tribal art, with an innovative use of acrylic, Indian ink, and burnt paper collages. His art, known as neo-tribal, revisits the cultural heritage of his native New Caledonia, oscillating between mythology, history, and identity. His works, vibrant with color and form, captivate the viewer, evoking a striking tension between the ancient and the contemporary, the particular and the universal.
