IL VOLO is a bronze sculpture of a winged woman and a pilot helmet.
She is a modern Icarus: she is a woman ready to change everything in her life, she is still doubting, but we also are sure she soon will take off.
Her story is about a strong woman made by herself. She has a strong desire to fly, to reach her goals, so she built herself a pair of home made wings, like a backpack, to free… herself. She doesn’t need to be validate by anybody.
She know who she is. This piece is part of a special collection Francesca Dalla Benetta started in 2018, called Customs and Identities, and it is a reflection about how many costumes we wear in front of people, the society, family and so on.

« The stories of each character, isolated in an intimate and personal dimension, are reflections on human values, perceptions and emotions. »
Francesca Dalla Benetta is an Italian sculptor based in Mexico. After 10 years working as a makeup artist in the film industry, Dalla Benetta is now a dedicated full-time artist. Her work is characterized by anatomies and mixed forms. Faces and human bodies are combined with different textures, skins and elements, giving rise to hybrid and fantastic beings. Through unusual, strange and surreal bodies, her pieces focus on the problems of transformation, identity, the sense of belonging, self-perception and dreams.
