About this artwork
In this painting, I wanted to reinterpret Marianne with a contemporary perspective, as the symbol of a new French revolution: not one of arms, but one of conscience, inner freedom and the strength of a society that needs to look at itself again.
Marianne's direct gaze doesn't ask permission; it challenges us. It compels us to ask ourselves what liberty, equality, and fraternity mean today in a world riddled with social divisions, doubts, and profound… changes. The black streaks that run through the artwork symbolize the scars of history, but also the living tension of a people who never cease searching for their truth.
This new French revolution that I wanted to express does not arise from violence, but from an urgent need for moral, cultural, and human renewal. Marianne no longer merely guides the people: now, she observes them, questions them, and invites them to awaken.
« I love to feel with our artistic duet the dance of our brushes accompanied by imaginative, colorful music within our stage that is a canvas. »
Her work explores contemporary themes such as identity, human connection, and environmental issues, using symbols and vibrant colors to capture the viewer's attention with her reflections.
What distinguishes Sastre's approach is the audacity of his chromatic palette and the expressive tension of his human figures.
Each canvas becomes a space for dialogue between the sensitive and the social, the personal and the collective.
He works with various media—oil, acrylic, ink—on multiple supports, from traditional canvas to cardboard, giving his works a texture and an almost tactile physical presence. His works exude a gestural force, marked by the movement of the line and the almost choreographic energy of the application of color, like a painted dance that invites the viewer to feel as much as to contemplate.
