About this artwork
“Heredity” is a visual meditation on the circularity of life—how existence never truly ends, but rather transforms across generations, materials, and memory; past into present, preset into future.
It explores duality through form and texture. In one piece, layers of handmade recycled paper are rolled into scrolls, tightly bound with palm bark—symbolizing knowledge, lineage, and the way life is preserved through structure and containment. In the… other, bark becomes the rolled form, embedded into a base of richly textured paper scattered with peacock feathers—symbols of regeneration, renewal, and inner vitality.
Each element was chosen not only for its beauty but for its meaning: Recycled paper, made using ancient papermaking methods, carries history in its very fibers. Palm bark, resilient and raw, speaks to grounding and endurance. Peacock feathers shimmer with transformation and rebirth—an echo of identity passed on, reimagined, and renewed.
Nothing is lost; it is only changed.
Günes Evrim, with a Masters in Industrial Design, expertly blends sustainable material exploration and paper-based narratives. Organic and textural, she mixes plant fibers and natural detritus with traditional paper crafting, enhancing the process with personal techniques like coffee marbling. Subtle, meditative artworks are born of her focus on memory, impermanence, and the transitory beauty in what’s discarded, reflecting themes of natural decay and renewal. Her works breathe with quiet emotion, inviting viewers into a dialogue with the material, their memory, and still, unspoken resonances.
