Shifting Grounds is a meditative exploration of motion embedded in stillness. Created using the pulp pouring technique, the white cotton pulp spreads organically across a dark brown Canson base, capturing an abstract topography that evokes shifting landscapes, cloud formations, or flowing water. Each irregular form and translucent depth invites the viewer to interpret their own story within the textures — some see animal forms, others, drifting continents… or fossil-like impressions.
This piece is both material and conceptual: a visual echo of nature’s constant transformation. The contrast between light and dark enhances the sensation of movement, while the handmade quality retains the raw tactility of paper as a living surface. It is a quiet yet powerful piece that encourages slowness, imagination, and attention to detail — a reminder that even still matter is full of life.
Günes Evrim, with a Masters in Industrial Design, expertly blends sustainable material exploration and paper-based narratives. Organic and textural, she mixes plant fibers and natural detritus with traditional paper crafting, enhancing the process with personal techniques like coffee marbling. Subtle, meditative artworks are born of her focus on memory, impermanence, and the transitory beauty in what’s discarded, reflecting themes of natural decay and renewal. Her works breathe with quiet emotion, inviting viewers into a dialogue with the material, their memory, and still, unspoken resonances.
