About this artwork
The basis for inspiration for Plant 3 was an old industrial wall in the factory district in Munich, which I often photographed for my photo studies. The selection of the materials used simulates the weathering and patina of the demolition walls there, which serve as a contemporary witness and transformation for my painting.

Gabriele Middelmann, an award-winning painter and photographer, has exhibited her works in her native Germany, as well as in Belgium, the United States, Austria, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands. The themes in her pieces delve into concepts of time, space, surface, depth and the traces we leave behind. Photography is the genesis for Middelmann’s painterly art, which she transforms into paintings through diverse materials such as paper, stone, powder, pigments and acrylics.
