About this artwork
In this piece I have combined a gorilla from Africa and an exotic leaf from Belize. The gorilla, powerful yet calm, looks out from behind the leaf. For me it symbolizes strength, protection and a deep connection to nature - a guardian of the wilderness who simultaneously represents the fragility of his habitat.
The large, green leaf represents lush nature, diversity and life. It creates an exciting contrast to the intense expression of the gorilla… and gives the image an exotic depth. The way the gorilla looks through the leaf invites the viewer to look beyond the surface, to understand the protection of nature and to preserve its beauty.
With this work I wanted to convey a silent but powerful message about the connection between humans, animals and nature – a balance that we must maintain.
Gabriele Steinlechner, a masterful painter and digital artist, creates unique works of art from combined photographs and acrylic paintings. Her technique fluently transitions between digital processing and physical execution; she plays with contrasts of light and shadow and combines unexpected details. Steinlechner's masterpieces illustrate the beauty and diversity of merged worlds, inviting the viewer to immerse themselves in the intertwined lines and discover their own stories within them.
"My paintings are silent spaces. Places where memory, vulnerability, and strength overlap. Between digital construction and painterly gesture, works emerge that make the invisible tangible—as a trace, as a gesture, as a gaze."
