About this artwork
BOOK VARIATIONS SERIES
Photography is based on the recognition and recording of already existing, as well as newly discovered structures and systems of relations.
By defining points of emphasis and focus within the image — highlighting certain elements while relegating others to the background — relationships and meanings emerge.
One of the fundamental structures of this system of relations is the connection between the one and the infinite: the… one relates to the infinite, and the infinite to the one. Each becomes interpretable through the other. This mutual determination, this dialogue, constitutes one of the essential operating principles of photography.
In this case, I used a book cover as a point of departure, constructing a system in which the one — through repetition, rotation, and superimposition — connects to the infinite.
Gellért Simon is a self-taught photographer whose artistic journey is deeply rooted in independent exploration and a fascination with visual expression. He employs structured techniques—favoring square formats, abstract visual language, and evocative black-and-white tones—to construct meditative studies of inner perception, where each photograph becomes a cognitive investigation into how we see and understand. His works radiate an atmosphere of harmony, tranquility, and contemplative purity, inviting viewers to share in his timeless search for meaning and emotional resonance.
