About this artwork
Genevieve Leavold’s work revolves around an idea about our interconnected nature and a curiosity about how we’re faring as we persist in valuing things over life. Her language is paint but the energy imbued in the painting is dance.

The Danse Macabre was a poem to remind us that the trappings of wealth and status will do nothing for us at the… very end. Part of the artists interest in philosophy leads her to believe that we just become something else, our energy gets recycled into another form.
Danse Macabre is an exploration of that in form - taking reference from bones, flowers,roots and fungi - the forms cascade energetically around and within each other in a dance - a rhythm of life.

Having grown up as one of 8 children, art acted as an escape for Serbian artist Genevieve Leavold, who has since exhibited her paintings in Serbia, the UK and US. Considering her work as a reflection of how she views different worlds or environments as interconnected, she uses her inspiration from nature - particularly found within man-made environments, to compose striking abstract works that marry each influence with balance and polish.
