About this artwork
With The Palm, I wanted to capture not so much the image of a tree, but its persistence in memory. The form emerges like a worn apparition: a simple, almost archaeological profile, emerging from a pale surface marked by abrasions, networks, stratifications, and material deposits. I was interested in working with the palm tree as a symbol of resistance, of climate, of an interior landscape, but removing it from any naturalistic description.
In this… work, matter acts like time: it erases, corrodes, leaving only what persists. The figure doesn't impose itself, it resurfaces. This is why La palma arises as a memory rather than a representation, as a trace of a place traversed and left within. This work is part of my research into contemporary material art and mixed media abstract art, where surface, memory, and sign transform into presence.
