About this artwork
I rarely get to see a good snowfall in my backyard and when I do I grab my brushes and paint as quickly as possible to capture it's fresh beauty. It feels both peaceful and alive—like that quiet moment after fresh snow when the world is hushed, but every color and shape in the garden seems to pulse with energy. My paint brushes were on the window sill sitting in turpentine and I thought to move them but then realized they created the perfect conversation… between the indoors and the outdoors.
This work is created with high-end, pigment-rich oil paints on archival-quality canvas, ensuring both vibrancy and longevity. It’s ready to hang, with no need for additional framing. The painted blue window frame not only anchors the composition but also acts as an optional, built-in frame—adding a second layer of depth and intimacy to the view, as if inviting the viewer to stand right where I did, looking out at my snowy garden.
Gillian Wainwright, a passionate painter with formal training from the California College of Arts and Crafts and the Art Institute of Chicago, masterfully works in oil paint to capture the pulse of life outdoors. Her loose, gestural style marries vivid, intuitive color and expressive mark-making, skillfully weaving rhythm, line, and the vitality of the world’s cycles. Through her dynamic canvases, she evokes the exhilarating uncertainty and beauty of existence, inviting the viewer to revel in the joy of fleeting moments and the dance between chaos and harmony.
