About this artwork
In this piece, I wanted to lean into the sheer power of layering. I started with a grounded, charcoal-grey base and then began a spontaneous dialogue between different shades of red. Because the format is so intimate, every mark matters; so I worked to create a sense of depth that feels much larger than the physical dimensions of the work.
Working on this museum-grade archival mat board allowed me to be bold and experimental. I find that these reclaimed… fragments, with their beautiful weight and professional surface, invite a specific kind of expressive freedom. By transforming this high-end material into a foundation for abstraction, I am merging my passion for vibrant, unfiltered color with a conscious commitment to a sustainable studio practice. It is an intentional way to create art that is as permanent as it is environmentally mindful.
