About this artwork
After painting and drawing with a lot of material, I realized that "subtraction" gave me greater emotion and satisfaction. In our age, where everything abounds, yet we become increasingly impoverished, perhaps it's necessary to start subtracting to fully experience the simplicity that lies in "little"... without believing that "having" can make us happier and more fulfilled. Simple, but just enough!
In my many travels, skylines have always attracted… my creativity. I don't like to influence those who view my work; I prefer admiration and hatred to indifference, the freedom to see or feel what each individual feels. Why influence with elegant words and texts? Simple, but that's enough for me.
Giovanni de Michele, an Italian artist born in 1973, creates abstract-figurative works using mixed techniques on various supports such as paper, canvas and wood. His unmistakable technique is based on the subtraction of color, leaving only evanescent traces of what was, evocative of cities, faces, landscapes. Through his works, de Michele wants to arouse emotions, positive or negative, reflecting on the transience and fleeting trace of humanity.
