About this artwork
This work is about color and line, and the energy that arises though the juxtapositions created by abrupt transitions between pattern areas. Ultimately, the work is about the viewer’s experience as he or she regards this arrangement of circles, rectangles, triangles, squares, and the negative spaces. I hope there is a luminous energy communicated, and that the painting is beautiful and interesting in equal measure; that a harmonious balance within…
complexity emerges. However, aesthetic meaning is wholistic and beyond the linear experience words attempt to describe. And that experience changes over time. I'll be happy to answer any questions about my process, the history of hard-edge geometric painting and how I see this work contributing to that tradition.
