The world represents for the artist a formidable unlimited reservoir of objects. Fearful of the richness and immensity of reality, she chooses a canvas on which to concentrate, a canvas to limit the acute sense… of her scattering, of her fragmentation which obsesses her.
Hamida Ouassini bends the world to its own logic, not for the pleasure of distorting it, but in order to point out that reality – as we think we know it – could have been just as different. And it is only one of the many qualities of this artist to have sprinkled some of her works with clues where magnificence competes with dread.
