About this artwork
Painful Consciousness explores this state of inner vigilance where awareness of the body becomes almost impossible to ignore. Through close framing and a repetitive gesture of lightly tugging an eyelash, the painting transforms a discreet and almost unconscious action into an intense psychological experience.
The wide eyes suggest heightened sensory and emotional sensitivity, while the dissolved contours of the face create a sense of instability,… as if the figure were oscillating between presence and disappearance. The depicted gesture is neither entirely soothing nor entirely destructive: it becomes a physical attempt to regulate inner tension and regain a sense of sensory grounding.
Part of the Repetition series, this work explores the micro-rituals of the body through which the nervous system attempts to manage overload and excess self-awareness.

A Czech-born painter living in France, she develops a figurative practice centered on the body as a site of inner transformation. Nourished by training in visual arts and fashion design, her painting—influenced by expressionism—blends anatomical rigor with instinctive gestures.
Through figures often isolated, immersed, or confronted by a boundary (water, glass, surface), her work explores the processes of individuation and integration of the Shadow, in the sense of Carl Gustav Jung. The body becomes the visible stage for psychic and perceptual tensions, revealing

Flesh becomes the visible terrain of an intimate passage, where psychic tensions, sensory perception, and presence crystallize in the pictorial matter.
