About this artwork
There is power in just being.
Just existing.
Doing the mundane, ordinary tasks of life.
Such as a fresh cut at the barbershop.
Me?
I have so little hair that I go to the barber college on State Avenue.
It used to be a Red Lobster.
I could cut my hair myself but there is just something about being around other people that energizes me.
Maybe its just the feeling of "being seen".
Its good to be seen.
Or maybe its the energy of being around folks interacting… as they learn the age old trade of barbering.
Its one of the things that AI cannot imitate and technology cannot replace.
Sitting in the chair as part of our physical body is literally cut off is kind of profound when you think about it.
To us, it may just be hair.
But, within us, it is part of us.
It is living, organic material with our unique DNA all in it.
So, we sit and listen to the hum of the clippers as parts of us are falling to the floor.
Soon, it will be swept up and mingled with the living material of others and then all is
« My art is my personal weapon in the battle against all forms of oppression in the world. »
