About this artwork
Here's why Ernst felt she levitated in the company of clouds when she painted 'Headed to Olympia'. Her family was preparing to relocate to Seattle, east of the Olympic peninsula. This area is home to fourteen metro art districts. Her emotions ran high. She was drawn back to the state of enchantment she felt in college learning about the Greek city of Olympus, its gods and lore during the peak of Hellenic civilization. Ernst's vivid imagination…
so often takes her places she never physically visits. This is where it wandered before she headed with her family to her new home north of Mount Rainier and west of the Cascade range.
