Pillar of Warmth
Acrylic on canvas, 24 × 90 inches
Pillar of Warmth is created using a patina technique in which fluid acrylic paint is layered, dried between applications, and then partially washed back, allowing earlier colours and textures to re-emerge. Inspired by the natural patinas found in stone, metal, and weathered surfaces, the painting reveals a vertical field of warmth and light that gently rises through the composition.
The richly textured… surface gives the work a sensual tactility, inviting a slow, contemplative viewing. The edges are intentionally left painted, offering insight into the creative process and reinforcing the painting’s material presence. The work is signed on the back, and its overall intention is to create a warm, uplifting, and quietly luminous experience.

Heidi Thompson is an experienced Canadian painter who has exhibited her work in the US, Canada and Switzerland. She originally started out as a figurative painter striving to express the human condition, but soon decided to move away from the darkness and suffering she found herself portraying to a colorful abstract style full of hope, light and beauty. Today, she creates a bold and colorful 'Multicolours' series, as well as minimalist works that reflect the style of 'Monochrome Energy Fields.'
