About this artwork
Do you remember playing with your grandmothers button box? To select, to categorize, to use or throw away?. The trick of living and painting is to overturn your button box every day. Review your observation route every day. I do that concretely by painting. My studio is like a box full of toys. Every day I turn over the box with possibilities (=for example, I choose material, which brush, which size, etc.) and each time a route unfolds.
How special… it is that as soon as you draw a line on a canvas and something is there it wasn't before! The great thing is that anyone can have this art experience. Give it a try, grab a piece of paper, scribble something, and then respond again. Immerse yourself in the matter and let yourself be surprised! Will that be art? It's not about what you make, but that you make it your own. Even better is that matter makes itself your own, then there is that fluidity that precedes the forms. Only in that fluid experience does the one life manifest.
« Everything in the world revolves around connection. One thing leads to another, nothing is available separately. »
Henrie Vogel is an experienced artist based in the Netherlands whose paintings have been featured in numerous solo exhibitions nationally. Identifying with the New Materialism movement, his works center around the concept of connection. For Vogel, this connection is translated through an intuitive dialogue with the material. He most often creates with acrylics, oils, ink, and pigments on canvas.
