‘Viewing Box’
In these paintings I play with the strange fact that a painting is both an object and an image. That does not apply for a digital image, and therefore this cannot be experienced on this site. In the ‘Viewing Box’ series the perspective is put under pressure, as I play with flat and spatial.
At my grandparents’ there was an oil painting in the attic. I often marveled at those few cleverly placed blobs of paint turned into a thatched… cottage, with real trees behind it. It had snowed there. And a man was standing there. Just standing. Frozen in that eternal moment. Image and object at the same time. Plywood, paint, with a skin, a palpable thickness. I like to make paintings in which I can feel that eternal moment again.
For this canvas as well I make use of a special technique with which I build up layers of paint.
