About this artwork
"Ice Crystals in Blue" reveals the subtle poetry of the frozen in delicate, almost floating structures. Like a view through frozen glass, the work reveals a fascinating depth: shimmering patterns, organic lines, and crystalline forms that seem to have formed of their own accord.
The intense luminosity of the blue appears cool and clear—yet tranquil and calming. The elaborately developed technique, using pigments, oils, and natural binding agents,… creates a unique surface. The white frame emphasizes the grace of the work and makes it a visual focal point in the room.
A small work of art of natural processes – pure, elegant and full of fine details.
Herwig Port is one of the most versatile painters who makes full use of his craftsmanship. As a young child, he spent a lot of time in his grandfather's studio and was taught oil painting techniques. This enabled him to develop a broad spectrum of painterly expressiveness. Herwig Port creates luminous oil paintings characterized by harmonious coloration. His technique is based on thin, translucent layers of paint that allow the white of the canvas to shine through and their luminosity is reminiscent of church windows. His themes are the beauty of transience, expressed through autumnally colored vine leaves and the play of light in mountain and lake landscapes, which he often depicts in a highly abstract or almost photorealistic manner. In his work, it is important to him to always maintain a childlike curiosity in order to remain creative. This creativity lends his works their special expressiveness.
